Scott Sutherland has harboured a passion for the bass guitar for most of his life. An equally enduring passion for music education led Scott to establish Pro Bass Lessons with the aim of aiding aspiring bass players in their pursuit of excellence on the instrument.

Having immersed himself in the sounds of funk, soul and disco as a teenager Scott got his first break playing live and in the studio for a variety of New Zealand’s top dance music producers including Subware and Cuffy & Leon as well as legendary New York house producers Mateo & Matos. These formative experiences as a late teen played a large part in his decision to pursue music as a fulltime career. Since then Scott has spent over a decade working as a professional bass player and music educator.

Scott also works as a producer and composer and has contributed music to compilations released by Universal Music, Loop Recordings, Reliable Recordings and RE:MIX Media. He has also been commissioned to write original music for television and radio ads for brands such as Farmers, Avis and G Force.

Scott currently plays bass in the indie rock band Motocade. With Motocade he has toured throughout New Zealand, Australia and the United States and has performed at the APRA Silver Scrolls, NZ Fashion Week, The CMJ Music Festival in New York and the Big Day Out.

Over the last decade Scott has taught in excess of 250 bass players. Many of his former students have gone on to achieve prominence in the music scene both here and abroad. Scott has mentored the bass players in some of New Zealand’s most popular bands including The Veils, Cut Off Your Hands and The Earlybirds.

As well as having his own private teaching practice, Scott also teaches bass guitar at St. Kentigern College in Auckland.
